New Hasbro Black Series Reveals!

Friday 1st May saw the reveal of plenty of new Star Wars action figures from Hasbro, ranging from the Retro, Vintage, Mini Helmet and Black Series lines. As a collector of solely the Black Series, this article will cover those revealed in the stream.

The Clone Wars

Hasbro started off strongly revealing everyone’s favourite Marvel inspired clone, Commander Doom. Doom has always been one of my favourite clone designs since his one and only appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Season 6 – Episode 1 . Inspired by Marvel’s villainous Doctor Doom, he leads Doom Company in the battle of Ringo Vinda which results in his Jedi General being executed by clone trooper Tup following a malfunction with his inhibitor chip (I wonder what those are for?).

Next up, and continuing on from the strong start, we have Clone Commander Thorn. Also introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Season 6, Thorn became a fan favourite for his heroic death, blasting droids with his rotary cannon and fighting for the Republic until the very end. A feature I love about this figure is that the rotary cannon will actually be able to spin around!

The next reveal surprised me initially as we saw an updated Republic Commando. I was initially shocked by this as we already have one in The Bad Batch line. However, having now compared the two, I love this! The original RC released was designed with a more animated look which was cool, but this new one, designed with live action in mind, is perfection. I wonder when we’ll see Gregor using this model…

The final clone revealed was the SDCC exclusive 501st ARF trooper along with the 501st AT-RT. Clones received a lot of love in this stream with 3 already shown off, and this very cool Con exclusive to round off the May 4th reveal event. I’m a sucker for a clone so would love to add this to the collection once Hasbro add this to Hasbro Pulse post SDCC. Will you be attending the event and picking this up?

The Old Republic

The other reveals from the stream for The Black Series all came from The Old Republic era, a period of time we have little knowledge of in Canon, but of course have produced fantastic games in Legends which are where these characters have come from.

Starting off the reveals from this era was the 2-pack of Carth Onasi and Mission Vao, two companions from the KOTOR games. I personally am lacking in the KOTOR experience having only played the first 10-15 minutes of the first KOTOR but either way, it’s very cool to see the game getting some love with The Black Series.

To round off the May 1st event, we received reveals from the other game set in The Old Republic era, the ever expanding MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic. The first reveal was of Jedi Master Satele Shan, descendant of Bastila Shan from the KOTOR games. Having spent a lot of hours playing this SWTOR, I was very pleased to see this as she goes perfectly with the previously released Darth Malgus.

The final figure to mention is the Old Republic Trooper. In SWTOR, you can play as a Republic Trooper and customise different armour sets. However, this figure is of the standard white and orange armour seen and used by many troopers throughout the game. A fine addition to the collection.

That wraps up The Black Series reveals from the May 1st stream, and I must say, it is one of the best streams I have watched having kept a close eye on Black Series reveals over the last few years. Will you be pre-ordering any of these? Let us know in the comments!
